This post is a bit off the norm for me but after my trip through a few retails stores today I felt compelled to let my frustration out. What makes a great experience? I started thinking about this as I’ve become increasingly aware of the shopping experience. Let’s face it, it used to be just about price but that isn’t true anymore. Now it’s more about ‘value’ as in the experience. I make that small caveat as most things are about the same price now regardless of where you go.

I keep getting asked what I think about the new macbook air. What’s interesting is that the tone in which the question is asked is “Hey, this thing is greatest”. I’m not going to bore anyone with a personal review of a machine I haven’t had in my possession for any amount of time. However, I will try to best answer that looming question of “what do I think?”
Wow…so it’s been an entire week since my last post. If you were one of the lucky few who didn’t get last weeks flu, keep on the look out. I tracked a virus, via twitter, that seemed to spread across the US last week like a wild fire. Some were hit harder than others. My house seemed to suffer varying degrees and of course I was hit the hardest. Well I’m back and in decent health. Thank you to all that submitted possible flu fixes. I think the best was to simply get drunk..I’ll try that one next time.
So here’s todays video. A little group called Def Tech that I found while in Japan last year that had been around for some time. Their sound is intoxicating in the vibe they try to share. I hope you enjoy them

Did you hear? Pownce came out of beta testing today and is now open to the public. Go sign up now and import all your contacts from all the other socials you are already singed up with. Then start updating your friends on when and where the next party is and send files with ease. Or at least tell them where you’ll be hanging out at now.

Trouble connecting your windows mobile6 phone to your mac? I recently ran into this situation and after a lot of reading searching and searching the searching…I came up with this…
Windows Mobile 5 included a new way to connect USB devices using a new protocol (RNDIS). Unfortunately, devices using thi protocol will not always be able to communicate with the sync software you use as a conduit on your Mac such as MissingSync. The solution for this is a small application known as a USB killer. Basically, the application sets the USB port to act as a serial port. Of course finding the application is prompted this post…I couldn’t find one. Then by chance, and I do mean chance since I have not been able to find the same article again, I came across the following directions on the Microsoft website (can you believe it?)
To disable this setting on a Windows Mobile-based Smartphone device or on a Windows Mobile Standard device, follow these steps:
| 1. | Click Start, click Settings, click More, and then click Data Connections. |
| 2. | Click USB to PC.Note You may have to click More to view the USB to PC setting. |
| 3. | Click to clear the Enable advanced network functionality check box. |
That’s it…now your smart phone’s USB port will be serial and more than likely your connectivity issues will be gone. Happy Syncing!

I posted about this company last year see protection with style not bulk. It’s been great seeing how much exposure these guys have been getting from MacBreak and MahaloDaily. I can’t say enough but if you are looking for something to protect your iPhone or just want to add a little flare and distinction then these guys have something for you. Check out their full line-up at GelaSkins.
[update] I just had my iPhone replaced at the Apple store and I was a little nervous about losing my GelaSkin. The skin worked as advertised. I just peeled it right off and placed it on the new iPhone. No problems in removal or re-attaching. Awesome product! Check out the vids after the break and if you want to see the MahaloDaily coverage you’re gonna have to check out the iTunes store podcast section. look for episode 38 (the keynote has the same episode number)

Those of you that know me, know that I am an Apple convert. It’s been nearly 2 years since I purchased my first mac and have been in a’mored ever since. The only caveat is the office suite available for the mac was a bit old and crude in its implementation. Don’t get me wrong, even as old as it was it still seemed far more advanced than at the time office 2000. But wanted something that was fully integrated with my OS and a bit speedier I switched to the “office suite” from Apple. This time around they included a spreadsheet application (not quite as good as excel) but was a welcome addition since there wasn’t a spreadsheet application before. I found that the interfaces were as slick as one would expect from Apple and the software ran great. The bad news is that some of the features that I had become accustomed to in Microsoft’s office suite were not available still. The one big missing feature was the ability to do a mail merge form a list of names. Sure you can do one form your address book but if your pulling names form your website or have a list that you market to, you may not want to have those names in your address book just to do a mail merge.
Needless to say, I still like the offering from Apple as the footprint is small and the software does just about all I want it to. If I could get better exchange server support in mail.app then I would be in heaven. Today Microsoft will launch its new office suite for mac and it looks to be a serious contender. So much so, I may have ot switch. Strageny, just like there vista, the office suite comes in a variety of flavors and looks like it has to do with exchange server support in entourage. I think we’ll have to wait and see from the release what the real differences are. Check out the video below and I think you’ll agree that the updated suite looks good, but lets wait and see how well it is integrated into OS X

Lightweight Neoprene Sport Armband for iPod and iPhone
I received the SportWrap for x’mas and just broke it out a couple weeks ago. I have to admit that I pretty excited about this gift. I do like my bags and cases and am always on the lookout for something new to try in an effort to find just the right fit. You might recall my experience’s with the STM Evolution last year (still have and loving it). I like to carry my phone in my pocket but did break down last year and bought a belt clip. Sometimes you just need something that is totally out of the way and this case does the trick.
The basics are a neoprene case that surrounds the phone as well as makes up the armband. A great choice of material as it is meant to be used while the wearer is in motion. You still have access to the phone functions via a clear plastic front that only causes a bit of trouble with the touch screen (not enough to mention more than that). There are holes at the top and bottom to allow access to the headphone port and o f course the arm band is adjustable with the use of Velcro. One very nice feature is a hard rounded piece of molding that follows the edge of the clear part of the case. Originally I thought this was just for decorative purposes but after bumping into a couple walls it becomes clear that it does more than just look good, it actually adds an additional line of defense in protecting your iPhone while on your arm.
I really like this case, it’s comfortable, light weight and protects like it should. You will also notice that although there is bulk to the case by itself, once on it melds right into your arm and it becomes barely noticeable. You can’t go wrong with this one. I’ve been wearing while biking, hiking and just around the house.

A few days ago I blogged a little on Flickr. I just came across this little video that takes the viewer on a small tour of Flickr (from signing up, uploading photos, editing photos and sharing them). The video is ayear old so some of the tools have been upgraded and there are a few new features but for the most part everything is the same. Give it a look see and I’ll see you on Flickr. Thanks Jeff from TheThinkingStick.com for putting together a very nice tutorial.
