SDK released | iPhone users still must wait

It had been said for months that with the release of the SDK for the iPhone/Touch,  apps and additional features would not be available for at least 3 months afterwards.  I was a bit more optimistic in hoping that we would see something on the day of launch.  After all some developers were already working with the SDK and c’mon Apple, you know you have too.  So why the big wait?  Apparently, we will all have to wait for the new firmware to be released (2.0) in June.   Wow, does that possibly coincide with a 3G iPhone launch right before the holidays?  Seems like the right timing for Apple but as always we will all have to sit back and enjoy SMS optimized EDGE speed.  So what does the SDK mean for us?

Did someone say they needed better integration with their office exchange server, some time filling games or maybe you you are still going through withdrawal for not having a native chat client like AIM?  Your wait will not be long.  The new firmware will have exchange integration built in with active sync support and ability for push mail/calendar/contacts and remote wipe.  Of course, still no task list?  So how about games then.  With access to core graphics, we will be seeing such anticipated titles such as Spore and many other titles currently in development from EA.  It’s still nice to think about the games that could be had on this powerful machine but we still will have to combat the control interface (I have faith in the developers).  Lastly, we will see AIM made available (finally), and better late than never.

Now we all know that this is really just the tip of the iceberg per say.  There will be countless more apps and surely features built in to the new firmware.  Undoubtedly, we will see a new iPhone whether it be a 32gb 3G or EDGE remains to be seen.  I for one know that I should start saving my pennies as I’ll have to upgrade my iPhone to something with more storage :)
